SEASONAL PARKS-PUBLIC WORKS MAINTENANCE The City of Altoona, Wisconsin, population 6,800, invites applications from experienced maintenance workers for seasonal work. This position is responsible for maintenance and improvements of parks, grounds, facilities, and equipment, as well as project and maintenance work in the Department of Public Works. A valid Wisconsin Driver's License is required; WI CDL Class C is preferred. The wage is $12 per hour. A typical work week is 40 hours per week from April through September, including weekends, evenings, and holiday work required. A pre-employment drug screening may be required. Experience/Qualifications
- Must have ability to work independently and be self-directed
- Must have ability to follow directions
- Must have ability to successfully operate hand tools, power equipment, pick up trucks, trailers, tractors, skid steer and other maintenance equipment
- Must have ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisor and the public
- Must have ability to address citizen complaints and resolve problems
- Must have ability to perform each essential duty noted above satisfactorily; reasonable accomodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
- Must have the ability to follow safety rules and procedures
Duties/Responsibilities: Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Opens and closes parks
- Performs a variety of general grounds keeping duties, including but not limited to: raking, weeding, trimming grass, trees, hedges and shrubs
- Operates all grass cutting, mowing, edging, and trimming equipment
- Cleans restrooms, pavilions, shelters, and picnic tables
- Prepares athletic fields for daily use, includes dragging, watering, leveling bases, screening field, lining, sweeping dugouts, cleaning bleachers and park areas
- Mows city-owned properties
- Paints city facilities as needed
- Performs playground inspections
- Completes maintenance on Public Works and public utilities facilities
- Completes various maintenance and construction projects as directed.
