ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU)-- A major development underway in Altoona gets even bigger as city leaders approve two more building projects Thursday night. Those buildings, approved by the Altoona City Council would go in the northwest quadrant of the River Prairie Development located off Highway 53 in Altoona.

In two separate votes, city leaders approved plans for a commercial space and a Cowboy Jacks restaurant which would be built close to the banks of the Eau Claire River. Cowboy Jacks is a chain based out of the Twin Cities that features a western theme. The other building voted on Thursday night would be an office type building.

Along with approving the building plans, city leaders also voted to move forward with a trail project in the development. The city planner says all of those votes will help make this plan come to life soon.

"It's going to be a great amenity for the region and the Chippewa Valley based upon where it's located and the transportation access. There will also be enough commercial and residential uses there that they'll be a fair amount of activity," Altoona City Planner Joshua Clements said.

While Clements couldn't reveal any specific timelines for completion of the buildings and the trail, he did say he expects crews to start breaking ground before the end of 2016.
