"From a Wisconsin Farm to the Big Leagues: Burleigh Grimes and Andy Pafko"

Friday, March 23, 2018

The Altoona Public Library presents:

Author Joe Niese: From a Wisconsin Farm to the Big Leagues: Burleigh Grimes and Andy Pafko.
Scheduled on the eve of MLB Opening Day 2018! Though they were born and raised on farms just miles apart in western Wisconsin, Burleigh Grimes and Andy Pafko couldn't have been any more different. Grimes was a combative, spitballing pitcher who was quick to quarrel or even throw a punch. He played for seven teams over his 19-year career and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1964. The likable Pafko was a five-time All- Star, having played for the Cubs, Dodgers and Braves. Joe Niese is a librarian and author from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
