The Altoona Police Department is starting to hand out blaze orange warning cards for vehicles parked the wrong direction along Bluestem Boulevard, Front Porch Place, Meadowlark Lane and Blazing Star Boulevard.

Officials will be handing out warning tags until the end of July when failure to back-in park could result in a $20 citation.

"River Prairie being so unique and beautiful and it seems to be the go to place right now we just want to make sure that the public is safe," said Jesse James, the Altoona Police Chief. "We don't want people crossing the lanes and potentially striking pedestrians that may be crossing the crosswalks or hitting another car."

Altoona Police say they plan to add additional signage along the roads to warn motorists about the new citation.
