All week long, the Altoona Police Department has been joined by Christian Knaack, a police officer from Hamburg, Germany. Knaack is the first officer here as part of the Altoona Police Department's Officer Exchange Program. Earlier this year Altoona Police Officer Edward Bell presented the idea of bringing six German police officers to Wisconsin.

As part of the program, the exchange officers stay with host families and participate in ride longs, trainings and building tours.
"It's always a good experience to see the difference between German Police and American Police. Police work itself is pretty similar but the way you handle things and equipment you use are totally different," said Knaack.

In total, the Altoona Police Department plans to host six German officers in the first year of its exchange program.
