Altoona Library exploring solutions for space crunch

Altoona (WQOW) - As the city grows, services are feeling the impact. Altoona's library said it's nearly busting at the seams.

On Thursday, the Altoona Library plans to go before the city council to talk about its progress and also its needs. Christian Jones, the library's director, said space is shrinking and the main concern is finding more room for shelves and study space. One option would be to expand the current location.

Jones said, "As Altoona continues to grow and the city and community grows, we felt it was responsible to look at the space needs of the library, too. We did find that, you know, eventually down the road we are probably going to need more space. We're not sure what that will look like at this point, but it's something that will probably happen.

Last year, Altoona Library served over 70,000 people. And, with a growing population, they expect that number to increase this year.
