'Teaching Garden' planted in Altoona

ALTOONA, Wis (WEAU) A garden like no other was planted today in Eau Claire County. UW-Extension and the Eau Claire area master gardeners have created a teaching garden at the extension office in Altoona.

The garden will showcase different ways to garden and will grow vegetables, herbs, edible flowers and more.

"We wanted a place to showcase different raised bed systems and it's a nicer way to do gardening. You can control it, the kind of soil and things warm up a little bit sooner," says horticulture educator Erin LaFaive.

Demonstrations will be held at the teaching garden throughout the growing season into the fall.

LaFaive says the produce grown will be used for extension's nutrition programs.
