Altoona may get winter gala

Brad Windeshausen of Ignition Promotions and Events is hoping to bring an "action-filled weekend on the frozen tundra" to Altoona in January.

The Eau Claire County Parks and Forest Committee will discuss and vote on the 2015 Winter Fest and Games during its Tuesday meeting.

If it moves forward, Windeshausen said the winter festival would be Jan. 23-25 at Lake Altoona County Park. The event would include broomball, hockey, snocross, fishing and maybe even a polar plunge event.

"It's just something I think the area has needed," Windeshausen said, noting he's originally from Iowa and there was a similar event there.

Windeshausen said the event would have opportunities for local nonprofit, university and high school organizations to partner and get involved.

The goal would be to make it an annual event and change it up every year, Windeshausen said.

"Maybe this year wer'e playing snow golf and next year we play frisbee golf," he said. "Our vision is changing it up every year and (making it) very sports-oriented."
