Construction in Chippewa Valley on track heading into 2015

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Right now there are several projects underway in the Chippewa Valley all of which are on schedule. The soon to be CVS Pharmacy on Brackett Ave is just one project that is ahead of schedule.

"We had a development agreement which was October 15th but I think they will be done before that."

Eau Claire City Planner Russ Van Gompel says there haven't been any issues with the project and anticipates a heavier traffic flow in the area when all is said and done.

"It will be a traffic generator for sure but we had that in mind when we re-did Brackett Ave. and realigned Donnellan Ave.," Van Gompel said.

Van Gompel says the project will also have a positive impact on the city's south-side.

"It will add a little property value to the area and it will really attract and bring more customers into the Hastings corridor," said Van Gompel.

Right next door in Altoona two projects will be near completion on River Prairie Drive heading into 2015. The new Woodman's grocery store is expected to open this coming September.

"Woodman's started construction this fall and they're working very diligently on the project and you can see walls starting to go up now," said City Administrator Mike Golat. He continued to say the store will bring more revenue to the area.

"People are going to enjoy the assortments and price points there and it's been proven that when Woodman's come it's an enormous traffic generator which is really something that we've needed."

Across the street at the second development project, The New Front Porch is expected to be the Altoona's new town center.

"Over the past two months I've been getting 2-3 calls a week from people interested in building in there and I believe we'll have additional projects next year," said Golat.

He says the New Year is bringing big things to Altoona.

"It puts a face on Altoona because right now without that defined business districts our borders kind of mesh borders with Eau Claire," Golat said.
