Celebration says goodbye to Altoona Middle School

Altoona (WQOW) -- A local middle school said goodbye to its old walls with an end of the year bash.

Thursday, Altoona Middle School celebrated as the time for construction on a new building draws near. An outdoor event was held, complete with water balloon launches, silly string battles, and dancing.

The existing middle school has served students and staff for over 50 years. Altoona Middle School principal Gary Pszeniczy says the new building is an opportunity for students and staff to have ample room.

"It's going to allow us to kind of spread out, have resource rooms and just be more creative, and just hopefully reach more of our twenty-first century education goals," says Pszeniczy.

Altoona schools started early last August so they could start construction this spring. The elementary and intermediate schools will hold their final day of classes on Friday. The middle and high school will end their years next Wednesday.
