CITY OF ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) The Altoona City Council gives the green light to a local contractor to start work on the new River Prairie development.

Haas Sons, Inc. was awarded the bid to start phase one of the project.

It will be located on a 50-acre parcel in the northwest quadrant of River Prairie Drive, in between the Eau Claire River and Highway 53.

That means, in just a few weeks, trees will be cleared, piping will be laid underground, and concrete will be poured on entry roads.

Members call this the "infrastructure."

The contract also includes widening of River Prairie Drive, to accommodate extra traffic coming into the area.
