Altoona Teaching Gardens

ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) -- Most of us say there isn't enough time in the day to stop and smell the roses but in Altoona the community is stopping for a unique reason.

Erin LaFaive, the Horticulture Educator with the UW-Extension of Eau Claire County joined Hello Wisconsin to explain more about the teaching gardens.

Erin says she was looking for a place for people to come and see different gardening techniques especially in small spaces like backyards and apartments. It is also a place that you can see a variety of vegetables and learn how to prune. The produce that is grown is used for the Wisconsin Nutrition Educators. The organization teaches people about fresh fruits and vegetables.

You can see the gardens up close and personal until about October. The garden is right on the sidewalk and is open 24 hours a day at the intersection of Lynn Avenue and First Street West.
