Altoona (WQOW) -

The Highway KB trail which will run by the Altoona Elementary School will get its start in the new year.

The Altoona City Council recent approved the design on November 21, which will include a complete construction of the roadway from 3rd Street East to the school. The construction will include an 8-foot-wide, multi-use trail, and bike lanes to make easier walking and biking access to the school.

The first phase of the $2.1 million project will begin in 2018. The path will be paid for by the City of Altoona, and Eau Claire County. The city council has applied for state grants to east the cost, but they will not know if the grant is approved until next spring.
