Concession Operator

10th Street Recreation Center Worker

Building Inspector, Full-Time

The City of Altoona, population 7,345, is accepting applications to fulfill the Building Inspector position.

Altoona is the 5th fastest growing City in Wisconsin with a focus on improving quality of life for all residents.  Located adjacent to the City of Eau Claire, Altoona is in the heart of the Chippewa Valley in Western Wisconsin, an area rich in arts and culture, excellent four-season outdoor activities, shopping, restaurants, and booming music scene.  The area features several K-12 school districts rated among the highest in Wisconsin, and excellent higher education institutions UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, and Chippewa Valley Technical College.  Like our neighbors, Altoona is heavily invested in the outdoors and our natural resources by expanding our bicycle trail network, revitalizing our parks, and improving access to our clean lakes and rivers.  Our growing and diverse employment sectors include technology, computing, manufacturing, and communications.  Our community and region are known for welcoming hospitality, fun amenities, and growing economy perfect for raising a family or starting a new venture.

Responsibilities: This team member is responsible for receiving and processing building permit applications, reviewing plans for conformance with code requirements, reviewing plans for driveways, accessory buildings, and new dwellings for conformance with zoning requirements.  An ideal candidate for this position will illustrate technical competency and strong communication skills, extensive interaction with contractors, homeowners and commercial building owners.  Reporting directly to the City Planner/Zoning Administrator, this position inspects practices involving installing, repairing and maintaining building construction, and building design.  Maintains thorough knowledge of national, state and local codes and regulations relating to building construction, plumbing, electrical and allied installations.

Minimum qualifications: Three years of a combination of education (associates degree or higher) and experience in a construction related trade, with two of those years in building inspection and/or code enforcement.  Certifications in UDC construction, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and commercial construction required.

Salary range: $50,000 to $64,320 DOQ + excellent benefits including the Wisconsin Retirement System.
