Concession Operator

Building Inspector, Full-Time

The City of Altoona, population 7,345, is accepting applications to fulfill the Building Inspector position.  Located adjacent to the City of Eau Claire, Altoona is the 5th fastest growing City in Wisconsin with a focus on improving quality of life for all residents.

This team member is responsible for receiving and processing building permit applications, reviewing plans for conformance with code requirements, reviewing plans for driveways, accessory buildings, and new dwellings for conformance with zoning requirements.  An ideal candidate for this position will illustrate technical competency and strong communication skills, extensive interaction with contractors, homeowners and commercial building owners.  Reporting directly to the City Planner / Zoning Administrator, this position inspects practices involving installing, repairing and maintaining building construction, and building design.  Maintains thorough knowledge of national, state and local codes and regulations relating to building construction, electrical and allied installations and plumbing.

Minimum qualifications include five years of a combination of education (associates degree or higher) and experience in a construction related trade, with two of those years in building inspection and/or code enforcement. Certifications in UDC construction, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and commercial construction required.  Commercial electrical certification or ability to acquire within one year of hire.

Starting salary range: $50,000 to $54,000 DOQ + excellent benefits.

Library Director

Altoona Public Library • 1303 Lynn Avenue

The Altoona Public Library in Altoona, WI seeks a well-organized and energetic leader to direct the operations of their library.  The library is part of the Indianhead Federated Library System and MORE system.

The library serves a city of about 7,300 residents in one of the fastest growing areas in western Wisconsin. Altoona has the charm of a small town with its convenient proximity to the City of Eau Claire and the Twin Cities metropolitan area.  Nestled in the scenic beauty of Lake Altoona and the Eau Claire River, the area offers a variety of arts events and outdoor activities for all ages.

Responsibilities: The Library Director reports to a seven-member Board of Trustees and is responsible for the overall management of the library.  Essential duties include building and maintaining our collection, managing the library budget, supervising the library staff of eleven people (5.85 FTEs), planning programs for adult patrons, developing community partnerships, and promoting the library within the City of Altoona and the surrounding area.

Qualifications: Candidates must be eligible for Wisconsin Grade 1 certification. A Library Science Master's Degree is required. Three or more years of library experience is preferred; library administration experience is also desirable. The ideal candidate shall also possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with library staff, the Library Board, the City of Altoona, and community organizations. Knowledge of current library practices, technology, and trends is required. 

Compensation is commensurate with experience.  Excellent benefit package.
