Eau Claire (WQOW) - On Thursday plans for the River Prairie Northwest Trail project, encircling Altoona's fastest growing development, will be in the spotlight.

According to the city's engineer, a trail along the river will link to an existing trail on the east end and will stop south of the River Prairie Drive bridge. Eventually, the Altoona trail will link to the trail that leads to downtown Eau Claire.

Work on the paved trail, priced at $330,000, will begin in June and will be complete in the fall. The city was given a $225,000 grant for the project, which will be managed by the state.

The first public informational meeting, focusing specifically on the trail project, will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Altoona City Hall.
