The Eau Claire County Committee on Parks and Forest unanimously approved a master plan to upgrade Lake Altoona County Park.

Parks and Forestry Director Josh Pedersen said the plan calls for around $12 million in improvements -- including a new clubhouse on the lake shore, a large concession and restroom pavilion, multiple open air shelters, beach improvements, and expanded parking.

Pedersen said more research needs to be done, and the work would be done in phases.

"The first phase of this whole plan would be due a utility study down there so what type of septic system need to design to have that capacity down there for the extra restroom facilities, electrical work down there how much power do we need," said Josh Pedersen.

During the meeting, several neighbors expressed concern about traffic in the area.

The plan goes to the Eau Claire County Board for possible approval.
If approved, county employees say work could begin in 2019.
