ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU)-- A $25,000 grant is helping students at a local school district prepare for the future.

The Altoona School District was one of 21 recipients statewide to receive a grant from the Wisconsin Economic Corporation to help expand their Fab Lab.

A Fab Lab is a high-tech workshop with the latest industry equipment. It is used in a wide range of manufacturing facilities which helps students develop the skills they need to succeed in the workforce.

Lieutenant Governor, Rebecca Kleefisch, says Fab Labs are the future.

"Having access when you are still a K-12 kid to some of the hands-on opportunities and project-based learning that we know happens in Fab Labs across the state every day is extraordinaire. Kids are better prepared for college and they're better prepared for careers," said Kleefisch.

Ellsworth, Ladysmith, and Onalaska School Districts also received grants for their fab labs.
