Altoona (WQOW) - Construction for a $15 million hotel in Altoona is officially underway.

Wednesday, a groundbreaking took place for Staybridge Suites, a hotel that specializes in extended stays. There will be 135 suites in the hotel, covering about 90,000 square feet. Larson Companies, a property management company behind the project, believes it will create about 30 full-time jobs once it's up and running. They also believe the hotel is answering an area demand.

"There's no extended stay products in this market that's connected to a national reservation system, so this will be the first and again all of our research suggests that it's in tremendous demand in the Chippewa Valley," Tom Larson, president of Larson Companies, told News 18.

Staybridge Suites hopes to open in the spring of 2016.
