Altoona, WIS. (WEAU)-- Plans are moving forward for two school projects in Altoona.
Monday night, the school board made plans to break ground on the new elementary school in early June.
Last November, a 23-million dollar referendum passed, clearing the way for the new elementary school and renovations to the current high school.
The new elementary school will be located on county highway KB and will have about 24 classrooms.
Construction for that is expected to start next month and wrap up about 12 months later.
We're really excited we'll be able to, in the new building, have all single teacher rooms of 18 students with room for students to move around and breathe. The building has been designed so an initial occupancy, we won't be occupying every room so we have room to grow as well," says Altoona Superintendent Dr. Connie Biedron.
As for the middle and high school, a new entryway, improved security features and interior remodeling are expected to be done over the summer months. Read more about this article »
