Do I need a building permit?

YES - Permits are needed for the following:

  • Air Conditioning (adding or replacing)
  • Basement Remodel
  • Bathroom Remodel
  • Boiler (adding or replacing)
  • Deck or Outdoor Stairs (adding or replacing)
  • Door (adding, replacing, or removing)
  • Driveway or Parking Pad (enlarging or replacing)
  • Electrical Wiring (adding, altering, or replacing)
  • Fence
  • Fireplace (adding or replacing)
  • Furnace (adding or replacing)
  • Garage (adding, replacing, or removing)
  • Kitchen Remodel
  • Plumbing (adding fixtures, altering, or replacing)
  • Roof
  • Shed or Accessory Building (larger than 32 square feet, adding, replacing, or removing)
  • Siding (adding, replacing, or removing)
  • Space Heater - Fuel Burning (adding or replacing)
  • Swimming Pool (depth two feet or greater)
  • Walls or Partitions (adding or removing)
  • Window (adding, replacing, or removing)

NO - Permits are not needed for the following projects:

  • Door replacement of equal size
  • Fascia replacement
  • Floor coverings
  • Rain gutter replacement
  • Soffit replacement
  • Wall coverings interior (i.e. drywall, wallpaper, paneling)
  • Window replacement of equal size
