ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU)-- One of the area's newest schools is nearing completion. Altoona elementary school is set to open just before the start of the school year.

"We started this process about 3 years ago," explains Altoona Elementary School Principal Joann Walker, who says the district was strategic about the schools design plan from the start.

"After the referendum passed we immediately started working with our architect and planning out the new building," says Walker.

Outdoor trails, interactive computer labs, and a spacious library are just some of the additional resources students will be getting.

With average class sizes around 18 students, Walker says this building is ideal for future growth.

"Altoona is a growing community. The community support for building a new building like this certainly is attractive to families. We're certainly happy to welcome any new families into our community. It's an awesome community and it's a growing community and we're all very proud to be a part of it," says Walker.

The building will be completed in two weeks, just in time for the schools Grand Opening, which is scheduled for August 25th.
