Altoona (WQOW) - Altoona Intermediate School is being recognized for making strides toward closing the achievement gap.
The school has been nominated by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for the National Blue Ribbon Award, which recognizes the top-performing schools in the country on academic achievement.
Altoona Intermediate's principal, Andrea Steffen, gives all the credit to the school faculty for creating a support system to ensure students don't fall through the cracks.
"You don't do it for the awards and the accolades, but it really does validate the hard work and the blood, sweat and tears and all the things that we've put into place," said Steffen.
The school will find out next fall if they've won the award.
The Chippewa Valley has seen success with the Blue Ribbon Award in the past. Tiffany Creek Elementary in Boyceville won it last year, and Flynn Elementary in Eau Claire was honored in 2018. Read more about this article »
