Altoona partners with local company to remove graffiti

Friday, October 21, 2016
Jesse James | Police/Fire Chief

Altoona, WI - The Altoona Police Department has partnered with Wisconsin Dustless Blasting to remove graffiti from the bridge over the new kayak and canoe boat launch site located on the Eau Claire River in the River Prairie development.

Peter Bergee, 715.829.0166, owner of Wisconsin Dustless Blasting, and an Altoona resident, has agreed to remove the graffiti. The removal process will be on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 8:30 AM until 10 AM.

Wisconsin Dustless Blasting will be using a recycled glass product to assist in the removal of the graffiti.  The usage of this product is OSHA compliant and environmentally friendly.  The area will be blocked off in sections as the graffiti is removed.

Mr. Bergee contacted the Altoona Police Department after he observed the graffiti in the new River Prairie development. He stated that he takes pride in the new development. He said it is terrible that this type of vandalism occurred.

Normally, a process such as this would cost taxpayers approximately $1,500.  However, Mr. Bergee has agreed to an amount of $200 to take care of this graffiti.  A-1 Rental has partnered with this cause and has donated the lift that Mr. Bergee will be using to get to the tough to reach spots on the concrete pillars.

I have attached some images to show some of the graffiti areas that will be removed. If you have any questions please contact Chief Jesse James at 715.839.6090. Thank you!
