Lake Altoona drawdown to begin soon | November 1

Monday, October 16, 2017

l

ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU)-- The Eau Claire County Parks and Forest Department is reminding Lake Altoona homeowners the annual winter drawdown will begin on November 1.

The department says the purpose of removing around eight-and-a-half inches of water is to minimize the damage to property from shifting ice and to also create a larger reservoir in case of spring rains and runoff from melting snow.

According to state guidelines, the drawdown will be a maximum of six inches per 24-hours.

How long the drawdown takes depends on weather conditions.

The Lake Altoona boat docks will be removed for the season after the winter lake level is reached.
