ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) -- The Altoona farmers market hosted its final market of the season on Monday night from 4-7 p.m. in River Prairie. The city says the first market had it's ups and downs but they are excited to continue the event next year.

They saw great participation at the start of the market but vendor attendance and product availability caused some challenges. The farmers market was put together quickly mid-way through the summer so they hope to have some organization issues fixed for next year.
They will also be adding a country music night on Monday at the amphitheater to hopefully increase awareness and continue to grow the event. "It's another interesting and fun thing for the people of Altoona and the Chippewa Valley to have," said Mike Golat, the Altoona City Administrator. "I think the Monday night slot people aren't used to having farmers markets in the evening, I've heard from a lot of people that loved it but I think it's a concept we are going to have to build upon."
The city is going to take the winter to work on new marketing strategies and writing up some new policies for vendors, but they will be back here in River Prairie for the 2019 season. Read more about this article »
