News 18 gets an inside look at Altoona's new Woodman's

Altoona (WQOW) - Woodman's will continue looking for employees as the store sets to open September 1.

News 18 got an inside look at staff stocking shelves and people applying for positions. Woodman's said they will have over 200 employees with more than 160 being hired from the Chippewa Valley.

Altoona Woodman's Markets Store Manager Adam Campbell said entry-level employees will start earning $9 an hour, but those who work nights and weekends can make even more. They still have full and part-time positions available.

"It's a family-owned company, and we treat all of our employees as if they were family," Campbell said. "We're looking for somebody who is going to keep people coming back."

Woodmans will keep its doors open on weekdays from 8 a.m. - 5p.m., inviting inside anyone who wishes to apply.

The store will need a large staff because it is so massive. Management said an entire Walmart Supercenter would fit inside the building.

Those looking to apply pulled into a parking lot with a unique design. Cars face the store instead of parking parallel to it like most large lots in our area.

Woodman's said the layout focuses on pedestrian safety instead of packing in cars. When cars pull into the parking lot, they can continue driving in the same direction people are walking instead of having to cross paths. The style started at a Kenosha Woodman's 20 years ago, and since then, all store parking lots have been stamped with the same design.
