Architects present events center plans to Altoona city leaders

CITY OF ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) -- The architects behind the design of a proposed events center in Altoona showed city leaders Thursday what the building would look like.

Ayres Associates presented a pre-design report for the project at the Altoona City Council meeting.

The goal is to create a mixed-use building with a public space component to host community events near the River Prairie Development area.

Architects say they looked at other facilities in Wisconsin and how they worked when coming up with the concept.

If this plan is approved, Ayres will develop the design further so it can go up for bidding.

"Very nice vision that Altoona has, they really have a vision to create something very dynamic along with the new downtown area, with the park and this is something that is going to support that," explains Raivo Balciunas, an architect with Ayres Associates.

Balciunas says if the events center proposal is approved by the city council, construction could be later this year with an opening in the spring of 2017.
