EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The city of Eau Claire continues to grow, and according to Xcel Energy, keeping up with the demand to get customers natural gas can be difficult.

Next week Xcel Energy will start putting in a three-and-half mile long pipeline which stretches from one end of the city, to the other.

"It will start in Eau Claire at the intersection of Malden Avenue and Seymour Rd. and then travel east under the Eau Claire River and US Highway 53 into Altoona, and then down south and back west into the city of Eau Claire and end on Fair Fax Street and Henry Avenue," Said Liz Wolf Green, the spokesperson for Xcel Energy.

Wolf Green explained, by adding the pipeline it will help bringing more natural gas to the residents on the south side of the city.

"By adding this capacity we're meeting the current growth in the area as well as future growth," said Wolf Green.

Construction on the nearly $6 million project is expected to start on Sept. 8 and be finished by the end of November.
