ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) - The City of Altoona is working to improve its energy efficiency.

Today, the city in partnership with Xcel Energy did an energy assessment and walkthrough of its public works facility.

From the walkthrough, the city learned in order to reduce energy costs, its lighting and HVAC systems should be upgraded.

Altoona's Assistant City Administrator Roy Atkinson said this would not only support sustainability, but have economic benefits for the community.

"The city has an energy action plan. This partnership helps put these energy action plan's goals into action," Atkinson said.

Part of the city's action plan includes a two-year commitment to partner with Xcel Energy in increasing renewable energy sources.
